Her name, “Star La’Moan” was created at a songwriting contest years ago and became her “altered ego”. It is a sort of spoonerism of Marla Stone, who is a local educator, and the producer, band leader and performer of this outrageous band. Just as organic is the creation of The Kitchenettes, where she and other volunteers in the Kuumbwa Kitchen first played at their Holiday Party and have been creating those piquant sounds of New Orleans second line rhythms, Gypsy Jazz, Blues and Rock/Funk ever since. The band’s members go from 12 years old to 76 years years old, and feature bassoon, trombone, sax, trumpet with a full raucous rhythm section. To top the evening, special guest, Tammi Brown will grace the stage!
